Renewable Resources on the Farm
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 4-ESS3-1
This is an interactive lesson in which the topics of renewable and non-renewable resources will be introduced. Students will learn about the application of corn and soybeans as renewable resources. This lesson will conclude with students making their own corn plastic.
Incredible, Edible Landfill
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 5-ESS3-1
This presentation/activity teaches students about landfill construction through an activity in which they build their own landfill with edible materials. This is a perfect activity to either introduce or review the topics of landfills. Other topics introduced during this presentation include biodegradable vs. non-biodegradable, erosion, pollution, recycling, and conservation. There is a .50 charge per student to cover consumables for this lesson.
What's your Watershed Address?
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 5-ESS3-1
This presentation utilizes a 3-dimensional tabletop model of a watershed in order to teach students about water pollution and conservation. Through the model, students can easily understand ground and surface water interaction and their direct impact on the water cycle.
All the Water on Earth
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 5-ESS2-2
This interactive presentation is meant to help students to learn about where water is stored and how much of it we have available to us to use. Students will also learn about their own daily water usage and discuss conservation efforts.
Build Illinois
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 4-ESS1-1
Build Illinois’s geological history from 500,000 years ago to the present. Using sand and manipulatives, students learn the geologic timeline that formed Illinois landforms and organisms.
The Science of Soil
Next Generation Standard Addressed: 4-ESS2-1
This lesson will introduce the topic of soil to students, emphasis its importance, and demonstrate soil erosion. Students will also brainstorm and discuss ways erosion can be prevented.
Illinois Jeopardy
Next Generation Science Standard: 4-ESS1-1, 5-ESS3-1
Just as the name implies, this is a game played similar to Jeopardy that concentrates on Illinois features; symbols, agriculture, natural resources, animals, and landforms.
Candy and Crops Jeopardy
This version of jeopardy is meant to teach students about the crops that are used to make their favorite candy treats, but also touches on much more! Perfect presentation to schedule close to Halloween and Valentine’s Day!
